Hi,
With most my attention moved over to www.ultrasport.tv I have decided to start a new journal on that site. This journal will not be updated unless it is news that only affect the documentary “140.6″. The new journal can be found at www.ultrasport.squarespace.com. Thanks!

It will be available for exactly 2 weeks (it will be available until midnight on July 23rd, which happens to be the cutoff time for the Ironman in Lake Placid, NY).
Go to www.ultrasport.tv to see the trailer of the film. Again, starting July 9th at 12:01am anyone with an internet connection can see the film for free until July 23rd at midnight.

Ok, Ultrasport.tv is up and running in its TEST form. The video player is up and running also, but it currently does not have that much content on it. Content will be added to it soon, so please check back often. Again, this is just the test phase. The next post will delve deeper into the future of Ultrasport.tv.

I am currently continuing work on getting ultrasport.tv ready. More info on this venture will be posted as soon as it is ready to go “live”.
I am also doing a “re-release” of the documentary. The film is going to be shortened by about 10-15 minutes to hopefully make it appealing to some local television stations.
I am also considering turning this website into more of a community portal for triathletes to gather info, talk to fellow triathletes, and just have a place for all of you to connect to fellow athletes. I would like your comments on this idea. Email info@140point6.
Thats all for now.

Doing your first Iron-distance race next year? Dreading all the little details? Well here is a list of must-do’s for any first time iron-athlete.
1- DO NOT OVERTRAIN!!! This is the number one reason people get injured, burnt out, sick, etc. First time ironmen and women (me included) think they need more training than what their coach or mentor tells them. Don’t give in to the temptation to train much more than you actually should. It is better to be under trained than over trained. That doesn’t mean you can start training a month before your race, just follow your plan and don’t over-do it.
2- Get all the logistics of race weekend worked out NOW! So you dont have to worry about where you will stay, eat, relax, etc. it is best to have the weekend planned out as soon as you can. This is so you don’t have to worry about logistics, you only have to worry about the 140.6 miles that lay ahead. This includes the logistics for your family! Where will they be during the race? Where will you meet them after you finish? Believe me, you will be happy you made a plan. Just ask Ron Burke (athlete in my movie) what happened at one Ironman race…. He was about to withdraw from the race because he couldn’t find his youngest son on the spot he told him to be.
3- Enjoy the atmosphere, but not too much. The race expo can be a fun place to walk around before the race, but make sure you rest your feet before the race. You need to save those legs for the run! I made the mistake of getting sucked into the atmosphere before the canon went off on Sunday. I probably walked a marathon through the expo! Lets just say I was feeling it at about mile 13 of the run.
4- Listen to the vets. I am by no means an Iron-vet. I have only done 2 and I still consider myself a newbie. I love to get advice from the Iron-vets. They are the reason I know everything I do about the Ironman. The best advice I got from an Iron-vet was to not be a “first lap hero”. For people who race IM Lake Placid; you know what this means. For the people who don’t, just ask an Iron-vet.
5- Have Fun!
I will have more tips posted in the coming months.

Staying motivated during the winter months is tough. Long hours on the trainer, running in -10 degree temperature, and the holiday eating can make any seasoned athlete depressesed. Here are a few tips to stay motivated for the long winter that seems to loom ahead.
1- Get a bunch of your favorite DVD’s (Tour De France highlight videos, Boondock Saints,Without limits, Band of Brothers, 140.6! are my favorite) and watch them while on the trainer. This can get boring real quick so try to play games. eg- During a movie like “The Boondock Saints” do an interval everytime that 4 letter word is said. That is the best workout I have ever had.
2- Cross Country ski!!!! Cross Country skiing is the best cross training you can do for triathlon. There is a reason that pro Nordic skiers have the highest V02 max. This sport is tough and it gets your whole body into shape.
3- L-A-Y-E-R! You have probably heard this a million times, but if you decide to brave the cold weather for a winter bike ride, run, or any other winter event you MUST layer! This really doesnt get you motivated, but I couldn’t leave it out.
4- Computrainer? Nope! Look at the trainer called the “Fortius” from tacx. www.tacx.com. I would list all the cool things that this trainer has, but I would be here all day. The coolest is the motor break and the real life videos. Its like a computrainer on steroids. It simulates downhill!!!! And can simulate uphill up to 25%. There will be online “web racing”, so you can compete against someone from anywhere in the world. This almost wants me to stay on the trainer all year long….. Well, scratch that. (P.S.- I dont work for tacx, nor am sponsored by them. This is just a really cool product). The only catch? you will be out 1,000$ after this purchase.
5- Move somewhere warm.

I have been asked numerous times who will enjoy this documentary the most. After being to many of the premieres, and recieving feedback from people who have watched it; I have realized that it is perfect for ANY athlete that needs motivation. The message of the film is not to go out and sign up for an ironman race, but rather to get out and try something that challenges your body and mind. Though, If you are thinking of doing an Iron-distance event, then this film is perfect! If you are an Iron-vet then you will also enjoy this film very much! Ever wonder why triathletes choose to compete in such a long race? This film answers that question.
It is not a film on how professional triathletes train!!! This is about the age groupers. The people who have a 9-5 job and still squeeze in 12-20 hours of training a week. This film is for anyone who needs to be inspired by ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
